Fashion and Design Labs

Dress ideas. Shape identity. Create with technology and style.

Fashion is a universal language that blends aesthetics, culture and innovation. Our Fashion and Design Labs offer students an educational and professional environment in which to develop creativity, technical skills and design abilities through the most advanced digital technologies and prototyping tools.

The labs are designed for technical and vocational schools in fashion, design, graphics, artistic crafts and industrial production tracks, but they are also ideal for interdisciplinary projects with STEM and humanities subjects. The focus is on integrated training that accompanies students from conception to execution of the fashion product, with an eye on the future of Made in Italy.

Learning objectives

  • Learn the fundamentals of 2D and 3D CAD design applied to fashion.
  • Digitize, lay out and optimize patterns for industrial production.
  • Use software and tools for rendering and real-time simulation.
  • Acquire technical skills in printing, cutting and garment making.
  • Promote creativity, precision and critical vision in the design process.

Skills developed (examples)

  • CAD pattern making and size grading with consumption estimation.
  • Digitization of patterns with professional keyboards and supports.
  • Creation and optimized layout of paper patterns.
  • 3D rendering and interactive editing of digital garments.
  • Management of the fashion production cycle: from idea to production-ready prototype.
  • Sustainable design and knowledge of materials.

Practical exercises (examples)

  • Creating a 2D digital pattern and transforming it into a 3D virtual garment.
  • Automatic layout on fabric and optimized consumption estimation.
  • Digitization of paper patterns with high precision.
  • Printing patterns with professional plotters for production on fabric.
  • Review and dynamic simulation of the garment with CAD software.
  • Complete project: ideation, prototyping, aesthetic-functional evaluation.

Technical equipment (examples)

  • High-performance workstations
  • Fashion CAD software: pattern creation and editing, size management, 3D rendering, DXF/ASTM compatibility.
  • Professional digitizer: 0.254 mm precision, adjustable stand, wearable keyboard.
  • Printing and cutting plotter: speed up to 100 m²/h and 1100 mm/s, working width up to 185 cm.
  • Ergonomic workstations: furniture with fire-retardant materials, adjustments for prolonged use.

Curricular integration

The labs are designed to enhance curricular teaching in:

  • Industry and crafts for Made in Italy – fashion sector
  • Technician in graphics and communication
  • Textile and tailoring production
  • Design and applied arts in art schools
  • Work-based learning and professional orientation paths

Accessibility and inclusion

Workstations are designed to ensure accessibility for students with motor and sensory disabilities. Activities follow UDL (Universal Design for Learning) principles, using multichannel content, inclusive environments and customizable tools.

Technical support and teacher training

  • Complete installation and configuration of the lab.
  • Tailored training on the use of CAD software and equipment.
  • Curricular consultancy for integration into the school education plan and teaching projects.
  • Access to training portals with tutorials, operating guides and learning-unit templates.

Why choose this lab

  • Hands-on approach based on learning-by-doing
  • Professional-grade technological infrastructure
  • Joint development of creativity and digital skills
  • Strong orientation towards work and Italian production sectors
  • Suitable for innovative, sustainable and inclusive school contexts
