Connect theory to power. Power the future. Build solid electrical skills.
The Electrical Systems Lab is an advanced teaching space designed to give students the fundamental skills in civil and industrial wiring, electrical distribution and safety. Equipped with interactive workstations and professional instrumentation, the lab lets students learn through hands-on activities, simulations and real measurements on electrical switchboards, home-automation systems, industrial automation and renewable-energy systems.
Designed for technical and vocational schools with electrical, electronics and mechatronics specializations, the lab integrates seamlessly into work-based learning, ecological-transition projects and STEM programs.
Learning objectives
- Design and build civil and industrial electrical systems to CEI standards.
- Acquire hands-on skills installing switchboards, breakers, residual-current devices, protection and control devices.
- Apply electrical safety and accident-prevention regulations.
- Simulate and verify direct-current (DC) and alternating-current (AC) circuits.
- Develop skills in integrating photovoltaic and home-automation systems.
- Use professional measurement instruments to test continuity, insulation and current draw.
Skills developed
- Wiring and installation of three-phase and single-phase civil electrical systems.
- Configuration of switchboards with thermal-magnetic and residual-current protection.
- Reading wiring diagrams and building them on a training board.
- Fault diagnostics with multimeters, clamp meters and network analyzers.
- Integration with home-automation systems, basic PLCs, inverters and microcontrollers.
- Securing systems and verifying compliance with CEI 64-8.
Hands-on exercises (examples)
- Building and testing lighting/socket systems on a modular board.
- Wiring a basic home-automation system for lighting and roller-shutter control.
- Configuring residual-current and thermal-magnetic protection in simulated environments.
- Simulating faults and carrying out recovery interventions in protected environments.
- Connecting a low-voltage photovoltaic system to a controlled load.
- Grounding and verification with professional instrumentation.
Technical equipment (examples)
- Teaching panels for simulating and testing civil and industrial systems.
- Modular workbenches with integrated measurement instruments.
- TRMS digital multimeters, clamp meters, insulation testers.
