Autotronics Labs

Technology. Diagnostics. Innovation. On the roads of the future.

Autotronics labs offer students an advanced learning context for studying and analysing the electronic and mechatronic systems found in modern vehicles. Through the use of simulators, sectioned engines, ignition and diagnostic systems, the lab faithfully reproduces real operating conditions, fostering the acquisition of practical, theoretical and diagnostic skills.

These labs are designed for technical and vocational schools with mechanical, mechatronic, maintenance and transport-and-logistics tracks, and they integrate effectively into work-based learning paths and school projects.

Learning objectives

  • Understand how engine management and ignition systems work.
  • Develop technical skills in electronic diagnosis and troubleshooting.
  • Deepen knowledge of mechanical transmission systems.
  • Foster the integration of theory and practice through real models and simulators.
  • Stimulate critical thinking and the adoption of professional behaviours.

Examples of skills developed

  • Diagnosis and analysis of faults in injection and ignition systems via OBD II.
  • Interpretation of diagnostic signals using tools such as oscilloscopes and multimeters.
  • Study of engines and transmissions with real sectioned models (Common Rail, mechanical gearbox).
  • Dynamic visualization of engine parameters (RPM, temperature, pressure).
  • Use of professional software and tools such as TEXA Navigator and Uniprobe.
  • Understanding of ignition curves and injector operation.

Examples of practical exercises

  • Simulation of faults in FSI systems and direct ignition for diagnostic activities.
  • Analysis of the ignition sequence and operating parameters through display and diagnostics.
  • Observation and study of the internal mechanical components of engine and transmission with sectioned models.
  • Simulations of operating cycles in real operating conditions.
  • Setup and reading of diagnostic tools integrated with the OBD II system.
  • Practical interventions on integrated mechanical and electronic components.

Technical equipment (examples)

  • MSFSI02: trainer on BOSCH FSI engine management with fault simulator.
  • MSUS01: trainer on three types of ignition with sequence tests.
  • AEMBA170: sectioned Common Rail diesel engine with manual gearbox.
  • Complete diagnostic kit: Texa OBD scanner, IDC5 software, Uniprobe oscilloscope.
  • Workstations with all-in-one PCs and technical benches.
  • Accessories for analysis, support and measurement.

Curricular integration

The lab integrates with the following tracks:

  • Maintenance and Technical Assistance
  • Mechanics, Mechatronics and Energy
  • Transport and Logistics – Vehicle Operation and Construction specialization

and it is valuable in work-based learning, interdisciplinary modules and professionalizing projects.

Accessibility and inclusion

The lab is designed according to the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), with adaptable materials, accessible workstations and multimedia tools to ensure an inclusive experience for all students, including those with motor disabilities or specific learning disorders.

Technical support and teacher training

  • Support for design with school teams
  • Installation and configuration of the workstations
  • Teacher training on technical and didactic aspects
  • Access to digital resources, technical manuals, print profiles and video lessons
  • Post-installation support and software updates

Why choose this lab

  • Immersive and realistic experience
  • Professional technologies and real diagnostics
  • Integrated teaching across electronics, mechanics and software
  • Development of technical-operational and cross-disciplinary skills
  • Training oriented to work and innovation in the automotive sector

With the Kyron labs dedicated to Autotronics, the school becomes a workshop of knowledge and innovation, where students learn by getting their hands on real systems and build the skills to drive the mobility of tomorrow.
