Topography and Laser Scanning Labs

Prepare your students for the new professions of surveying, geomatics and 3D digitization with a Kyron educational lab developed in collaboration with Stonex Srl.

We offer a complete, state-of-the-art solution for hands-on, immersive and multidisciplinary learning, designed to bring real tools and workflows into the classroom: from RTK GNSS surveying to total-station measurement, through to point-cloud acquisition with laser scanners and SLAM systems.

With this lab, the school becomes an operational environment “like a worksite and technical office”, where students learn to survey the territory, digitize reality and deliver reliable data for projects. The experience combines professional instrumentation and software dedicated to processing, registration and graphic restitution, with natural links to CAD and BIM, in line with the digital transition of the AEC sector and the needs of the world of work.

Designed for technical schools (in particular surveyor and related technological tracks) and valuable in the upper years, in STEM modules, interdisciplinary learning units and work-based learning, the lab enables work on concrete cases: plano-altimetric surveys, setting-out, 3D scans of buildings and complex spaces, comparison between traditional methods and fast three-dimensional techniques.

Examples of skills developed

Planning and execution of surveys with GNSS receivers (RTK, static and kinematic).
Detailed measurement, traverses and setting-out with a total station.
Fast indoor/outdoor acquisition with laser scanners and SLAM technology.
Registration, cleaning and management of point clouds.
Cartographic restitution and 2D/3D modelling with CAD/BIM integration.
Critical reading of data, dimensional control, technical documentation.

Surveying of outdoor areas with cartographic restitution, surface and elevation calculation.
Setting-out of architectural or infrastructural elements based on a project.
Scanning of school environments/buildings and production of the digital model.
Comparison between traditional surveying and 3D surveying for time, precision and output.

Stonex GNSS receivers with controller and field software.
Manual or motorized Stonex total stations for surveying and setting-out.
Stonex mobile SLAM laser scanner for dynamic acquisitions.
Software for topographic processing and point-cloud management, with CAD/BIM output.

Complete technical support

Kyron handles design, installation, configuration and testing of the lab, with documentation and ongoing support. The solution is delivered “turnkey” for an immediate, safe start, consistent with the spaces and organization of the school.

Tailored teacher training

We provide technical and methodological training, including certified courses, to make teachers autonomous in managing the activities: setting up surveys, operating procedures, data management and designing exercises and work-based learning/learning-unit modules.

Effective curricular integration

The lab integrates into surveyor tracks and into tracks related to territory and built-environment management; it can also be activated in regional academies, interdisciplinary modules and European projects dedicated to innovation and digitization.

Accessibility and inclusion at the centre

Workstations and software are configurable to support the participation of all students, with attention to usability, accessibility and collaboration, following an inclusive teaching approach.
