Experimental Physics Lab

Understand the world. Experiment with the laws. Build knowledge.

The Experimental Physics Lab is an equipped, modular teaching space designed to stimulate learning through direct experience. From mechanics to thermodynamics, from optics to electromagnetism, the lab lets students explore the fundamental laws of physics through guided experiments, measurements, simulations and interactive models.

Designed for technical institutes, scientific lyceums and technology-oriented vocational schools, the lab integrates seamlessly into STEM curricular pathways, interdisciplinary projects and work-based learning.

Learning objectives

  • Learn the fundamental concepts of physics through experimental investigation.
  • Use measurement instruments, sensors and digital devices to collect and analyze data.
  • Acquire scientific work methodologies, from problem solving to hypothesis testing.
  • Promote critical thinking and the ability to build physical-mathematical models.
  • Develop interdisciplinary skills across physics, mathematics, computing and technology.

Skills developed

  • Measurement of physical quantities: lengths, times, speeds, accelerations, forces, temperature, current.
  • Analysis of experimental data with processing and graphical representation software.
  • Use of wireless sensors and digital interfaces for real-time experiments (e.g. Vernier, Wacebo Science Bus).
  • Experimentation in key fields: kinematics, dynamics, waves, optics, thermology, electromagnetism, modern physics.
  • Ability to design, document and communicate an experimental investigation rigorously.

Hands-on exercises (examples)

  • Free-fall and uniformly accelerated motion experiments with timers and motion sensors.
  • Study of Hooke's law and elastic force with springs and dynamometers.
  • Verification of Ohm's and Kirchhoff's laws with breadboards and digital multimeters.
  • Interference and diffraction with optical kits and lasers.
  • Calculation of specific heat and analysis of thermal transformations.
  • Simulations with software for modeling electrical circuits or wave phenomena.

Technical equipment (examples)

  • Mechanics, optics, thermology and electromagnetism kits with USB and wireless data-acquisition interfaces.
  • Sensors for speed, force, temperature, pressure, current and voltage.
  • Educational software for data analysis and simulations (such as LabQuest Vernier, PASCO Capstone or Phywe).
  • Wacebo Science Bus: a complete mobile lab with digital sensors, touch display and guided pathways.
  • Instruments for radioactivity and radiation physics experiments.

Curricular integration

The lab integrates with the following pathways:

  • Scientific Lyceum – Applied Sciences and Cambridge option.
  • Technical institutes – Technology Sector (Mechanics, Electronics, Electrical Engineering).
  • Vocational institutes – Technical Maintenance and Assistance, Electrical.
  • Work-based learning – Cross-curricular and Career Guidance pathways.
  • Interdisciplinary STEM projects – Mathematics, Computing, Chemistry.

Accessibility and inclusion

The physics lab is designed according to Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles to ensure an accessible experience for all students. Provisions include:

  • Height-adjustable workstations for students with motor disabilities.
  • Software with simplified interfaces, interactive tutorials and high-readability content.
  • Wireless sensors easy to handle even with motor or visual limitations.
  • Collaborative activities that promote pair or group work, facilitating inclusion and peer cooperation.

With Kyron labs dedicated to Physics, the school becomes a dynamic center of scientific exploration, where the laws of nature can be touched first-hand and knowledge takes shape through experience.

Technical support and teacher training

  • Assistance with lab design and equipment installation.
  • Teacher training on active teaching methods and instrument use.
  • Video tutorials, operating guides and ongoing technical assistance.
  • Integration with digital learning environments (Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, LMS platforms).

Why choose this lab

  • Active, experimental teaching
