Sail the skies. Govern the seas. Design with precision.
The aeronautical and naval labs offer students a highly professionalizing environment in which to experiment, through simulations and practical activities, the key skills to operate in the air and maritime transport sector. From the analysis of naval structures to the management of avionic systems, from simulated navigation to knowledge of regulations and operating procedures, these training spaces enable immersive, innovative learning in line with the needs of the technical professions of the future.
Designed for technical schools with “Transport and Logistics” tracks – “Air vehicle operation” and “Naval vehicle operation” specializations – the labs integrate perfectly into the upper-year curricular paths, work-based learning and interdisciplinary STEM projects.
Learning objectives
- Develop technical skills in air and maritime navigation.
- Become familiar with on-board systems and aeronautical and naval technologies.
- Strengthen decision-making capacity in simulated and real scenarios.
- Integrate theory and practice with immersive and experiential methodologies.
- Promote the critical approach and technical problem solving.
Examples of skills developed
- Use and interpretation of avionic instrumentation with FAA-certified AATD and BATD simulators.
- Analysis and modelling of naval structures and knowledge of on-board equipment.
- Navigation simulation with GMDSS, radar, AIS, GPS and autopilot equipment.
- Familiarization with cockpits, real avionic panels and aeronautical simulation software.
- Study of materials and forces applied to naval structures.
Examples of practical exercises
- Instrument and visual flight simulations: take-off, cruise, landing, emergency management.
- Maritime navigation training: routes, speed, fuel consumption, weather conditions.
- Study of flight and navigation dynamics: use of simulated aircraft such as Cessna and Piper.
- Verification of the stability and strength of naval structures with dedicated software.
- Management of the command bridge with realistic interfaces and touchscreens.
Technical equipment (examples)
- BATD/AATD flight simulator with open or closed cockpits, complete avionic panels, power levers, curved screens and instructor station.
- Naval lab with structural models, instruments for measuring thrust, balancing and trim of vessels, maritime detection and communication systems.
- Digital instrumentation and CAD software for mechanical design and simulation.
- Integration with iPads and mobile devices for cooperative activities, documentation management and advanced graphic interfaces
Curricular integration
The lab integrates with the following school tracks:
- Transport and Logistics – "Air vehicle operation" specialization
- Transport and Logistics – "Naval vehicle operation" specialization
- Mechanics, Mechatronics and Energy (for naval design and aeronautical maintenance)
It is also valuable in work-based learning, modular learning units and Erasmus+ projects for international mobility in the technical field.
Accessibility and inclusion
Activities are designed according to the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), with adaptable digital materials, controls accessible also from tablets, and inclusive workstations for students with motor, sensory or specific learning disabilities.
Technical support and teacher training
- Shared design with the Teachers' Board
- Complete installation and testing of the equipment
- Methodological and technical training for teachers
- Access to portals with software updates, operating models, exercises
- Consultancy for integration into work-based learning and Erasmus paths
Why choose this lab
- Realistic and certified simulation (BATD, AATD)
- Experiential and interdisciplinary approach
- Technical skills in line with the world of work
- Alignment with the needs of transport professions
- Training oriented to safety, autonomy and innovation
